Welcome back to MUTW 2010!

Hey all!

Welcome back to uni and MUTW! Hope the holidays have been relaxing and that you’re now ready to go for another year of training, performances and competitions to challenge and improve your coordination, abilities and skills!

The committee’s been busy over the break and there’ve been a few significant changes as a result. Unfortunately Master Liu has had to leave us however Master Lily has been generous enough to fill his place and will now be teaching Tuesday and Friday classes going through a syllabus consisting of International forms bare-hand forms in semester one moving on to dao (broadsword) and jian (straightsword) forms in semester two, in addition to Taichi forms and San-da (Chinese kickboxing) techniques for self-defence. All very exciting stuff!

Further, Thursdays afternoons are now available for intensive training to go over any forms or techniques you’re learning and practicing. For the first 8 weeks of semester, a beginner’s course taught by seniors will also be run, so that those new to the club, or those wishing to improve their techniques, can be brought up to speed on the basics, and be able to participate fully and get the maximum benefit from the instructor led classes.

Taichi will now be fully overseen by Ben Morgan after a successful year of teaching in 2009 with both a general class and more advanced classes. I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not very good at Taichi, but he’s a wonderful and very patient teacher so I’ll be making sure I’ll be attending every class, including the 7.30 am Tuesday ones (you should too!).

Remember 2010 is the year of the Tiger, so be bold and seize the opportunity to do something different, perhaps outside your comfort zone and increase your confidence. Perhaps learn a form more difficult than you usually would attempt, participate in the WTPA competition in August and do a few demonstrations and performances. It’s all great fun and I can guarantee you’ll be buzzing for long after the final bow!

Righto, that’s all from me for the moment, I think I’ve done enough rambling. Feel free to come up and have a chat with me anytime too!

Love you all!
